{"id":11954,"date":"2024-03-07T18:42:03","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T18:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.managementcenter.org\/?post_type=resources&#038;p=11954"},"modified":"2025-07-14T21:38:46","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T21:38:46","slug":"sample-email-to-staff-announcing-mental-health-day","status":"publish","type":"resources","link":"https:\/\/www.managementcenter.org\/resources\/sample-email-to-staff-announcing-mental-health-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Sample Email to Staff Announcing Mental Health Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This is a modified version of an email that TMC\u2019s People Operations team shared about repurposing staff retreat time for a mental health day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hi all,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TL;DR<\/strong>: We previously held [DATE] for a half-day all-staff meeting. We\u2019re turning it into a <strong>mental health day<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong>: Provide an org-wide pause and invitation to rest\/reset\/restore\/recharge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong> Recent survey results indicate that team members could use some more org-wide and org-sponsored space to pause. While one half-day off won\u2019t solve all of our sustainability issues, we believe that small changes over time can lead to different outcomes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So\u2026 what is this day for? <\/strong>Use it to rest or do rejuvenating non-work activities! We\u2019ve provided some ideas and guidelines about this time below, and managers will connect with their team members during upcoming 1:1s to support in work planning, if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Possible ways to use this time:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rest. Take a nap, listen to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lS0kcSNlULw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meditation<\/a> or use one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.octaviaraheem.com\/rest-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Octavia Raheem\u2019s rest resources<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in a non-work activity that rejuvenates you. Read, journal, take a walk, garden, cook, spend time with loved ones, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Suggestions for how to prepare for this time:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some of us won\u2019t feel like we have the time to pause. Talk with your manager about what you need to do to actually take the time off and pause, such as minimizing meetings the day before, setting workblocks for earlier that week, or even helping you reset expectations with yourself and others.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If it helps, plan how you will spend your day so it doesn\u2019t get filled up with other (non-rejuvenating!) responsibilities.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prep your OOO email responder in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And, if you feel you cannot pause (or you don\u2019t want to), we encourage you to recognize your agency and autonomy to determine what\u2019s best for you.
